C.A.I is a Voluntary Grammar School which caters for 870 boys, including 50 boarders from 11+ - 18+.
The teaching accommodation comprises of modern classrooms, including specialist rooms for Art, Craft, Design and Technology and Music. Provision is made for the teaching of the sciences in 12 highly equipped laboratories as well as two lecture theatres.
In the first three years boys receive a general grammar school education, including Latin, French and Science. They may in the second year choose an extra language like Greek, German and Spanish. In the upper school a moderate amount of specialisation is allowed so that boys may choose 8-10 subjects out of a possible 24, including RE for GCSE. Three or four subjects are then taken for A level, in the sixth form, and many go on to Universities, Colleges of Education and other institutions of higher and further education.
Physical Education is well catered for in a large gymnasium and in a 25 metre heated swimming pool all types of aquatic sports are taught. A sports hall provides facilities for such activities as badminton, indoor tennis, cricket, basketball and volleyball. Boys also have the opportunity to follow the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme. A school orchestra performs regularly and individual instrument tuition is readily available.
Extra-curricular interests are catered for in societies and clubs. The main sports are rugby, cricket, rowing, tennis, badminton, swimming, cross-country running, athletics, golf, canoeing and sailing.
